Turnback project begins

The first evidence of the old Highway 10 turnback project getting started showed up early this week. One of the Tom’s Backhoe workers was busy Monday morning stripping out this row of trees on the block north of the Super America store. A drainage pond will be dug here to receive stormwater and ground water pumped from de-watering wells dug on the nearby Second Avenue when excavation work gets underway. Barricade signs have been put up along the Second Avenue route. On Wednesday, Tom’s Backhoe crews planned to begin removing pavement and curb and gutter on one block of 9th Street. The project will be confined to the area from 9th to 12th Streets for the first few weeks of work. (Staples World photo by Tom Crawford)
