High school diploma: Gateway to success

By Mark Schmitz

A high school diploma can be the gateway to postsecondary education, better employment and a succ essful college c a re e r. Our gradu- ating seniors are fortunate to be heading out into the world with a great education. I am so proud of all that our seniors have accomplished this year and wish them success in the future. For our graduates, a summer that is full of sunshine and an excitement for the future is ahead of them. My hope is they make the most of their time off and take their memories of Staples Motley High School along wherever they may go. Good luck to all of you.

This summer, the high school gym will be getting a makeover. From the entry way to the concession stand, from the bathrooms to the gym floor, those who return in the fall will surely be impressed with the improvements. People who have special memories of the high school gym will now have a chance to purchase a piece of history. Sections of the gym floor will be sold this summer as a sentimental keepsake. Each piece conveys a special yet different meaning or memory in the eye of the beholder. The current surface dates back to the original construction of the school in 1935. Proceeds will go towards purchasing a protector for the new floor. If you would like to own a piece of the Staples Motley High School gym floor, contact the district office to find out more. Also, be sure to look for the booth during Railroad Days, Saturday, August 28.

Have a safe and enjoyable summer, everyone, and be sure to take the time to unwind. Maybe we’ll run into each other fishing off the pier at Dower Lake or getting a treat at the Dairy Queen? If not, I look forward to seeing you in the fall at the start of another fantastic year for our Staples Motley Schools.
