Emily Israelson leads Cards at Mid State golf meet with 81

On the far right is Kayla Krause from W-DC. Staples Motley’s girls were busy on the links this week, playing in three tournaments in five days.

The girls competed Tuesday, May 18, at Detroit Lakes in the Mid State Conference tournament, finishing in fifth place with a 419 total.

Cardinal Emily Israelson toured the Detroit Lakes course with an 81, good for co-medalist honors.

An eighth grader, Emily tied with Matlyn Tscider of Detroit Lakes.

Israelson and teammate Kelly Hagenson (86) both earned all-conference honors leading the Staples Motley Cardinals to fifth place.

The Cardinal girls shot a team total of 400 while playing Thursday, May 20 at the St. Cloud Country Club Invitational. Kelly Hagenson captured team honors with her 90, but Emily Israelson was right behind at 91. Other scores were Tera Weyer at 101, Cierra Waverek at 118, Katie Dennis at 120 and Kylee Helling at 123.

Last Saturday, playing in the Wadena-Deer Creek Co-Ed tournament, the Staples Motley girls took second place behind Grand Rapids. Hagenson shot 86 and Israelson 88 at the Whitetail Run Golf Course.

This week the girls had a meet Tuesday at Detroit Lakes and are preparing for two Section 6AA meets May 2 7 and June 3 at The Territory. Scores for both days will determine the winner.
