(Photo by Kelly Hagenson) Led by Nick Forsberg’s 72, the Staples Motley golfers finished second at the Mid State Golf Tournament held May 18 at the Detroit Lakes golf course.

Detroit Lakes won the team title with a 395. SM followed up Monday’s 301 with a 302.

After Forsberg, Zach Israelson fired a third-place 73 and Tanner Roberts a seventh-place 78 as those three Cards earned Mid State All Conference honors.

Staples Motley played Thursday, May 20 at St. Cloud Country Club’s invitational. The Cards finished with a 320 final score, with Israelson at 77 and Forsberg at 78 the two best scores.

Last Saturday the Cards were at the Whitetail Run golf course at Wadena for the Wadena-DC Co-Ed invite. Israelson, shooting a 73, was the tournament medalist, leading the Cardinal boys to first place with a 323 team total

This past Monday, the boys returned to the Wadena golf course for the Mid-Minn Conference championships.

The Cardinals were team champs with 33 conference points. Medalist for the final Mid-Minn meet of the year was Zach Israelson at 74. He was followed by Nick Forsberg 76, Michael Strain 84, Tanner Roberts 82, Mitch Hagenson 91 and Trent Hagenson 86.

Israelson, Forsberg, Roberts, Strain and Trent Hagenson all were named Mid-Minn Conference All Conference.

The boys have this week for practice before heading to The Territory June 1 and June 3 for two rounds of Section 6AA tournament golf. Their total score from the two days will count toward the Section 6AA championship. Only one team from the section advances to the state golf tournament June 16 and 17.
