Memorial Day services in Motley area May 31

Memorial Day services, hosted by American Legion Tri-County Post #124, will be held Monday, May 31, at four locations in the Motley area:

o Bridgeman Cemetery, 9 a.m.

o Motley Staples Middle School, 10 a.m.

o Motley Evergreen Cemetery, 11 a.m.

o Poplar Cemetery, 1 p.m.

Ron Hanson, Commander of Tri-County Post #124, will give the address at each of the services. A Vietnam veteran, Hanson’s

speech is entitled, “The Privilege and Duty of Patriotism.”

Korean War veteran Alvin Jeske is scheduled to give his speech, “Greatest Sacrifices;” and Pastor Jim Johnson of the Free Methodist Church in Motley will give the Invocation and Benediction.

The 10 a.m. service at MSMS will also include special music by students from Staples Motley High School, including Lonna Dumpprope on vocals; and April Alexander and Brittany Lind on violin.

The Motley American Legion will give a Tribute to an Unknown Soldier, as well as provide the honor guard and firing squad; and Taps will be played by Walter Bryce.
