Wallace Hanson
Wallace Dwight Hanson, 87, of Paynesville, died April 24, 2010, at Banner Hospice in Mesa, Ariz.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on May 8, at the First Presbyterian Church in Litchfield with Pastor Gordon Pennertz offi ciating. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. May 7, at the church and one hour prior to the service. Private burial will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Staples. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard.
Arrangements are with the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home, Litchfield.
Wallace was born Jan. 28, 1923 to Daniel and Lillian (Vogtman) Hanson in Staples. He received his education at Staples High School graduating in 1941. He served as a U.S Navy Seaman First Class from 1942 - 1945.
On Aug. 31, 1946 he married Lauretta Brummer in Staples. In 1960, they moved to Litchfield until 1984. They retired to Rice Lake near Paynesville, for summers and winters in Mesa, Ariz., later moved to Paynesville. They owned the Coast to Coast Store in Litchfield from 1960 - 1984.
He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion and First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. Wally enjoyed fishing on Rice Lake, working in his yard, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren.
Wallace is survived by his wife, four daughters, Linda (Doug) Meyer of Rochester, Ill.; Kay (and Tim Lane) Hanson of Eden Valley; Barb (Don) Snegosky of Maple Grove; Chris (Kevin) Hanson- Ehlinger of Avon; two sons, Dean (Bev) Hanson of Paynesville; Bob (Mary Lou) Hanson of Sartell; 16 grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Winnifred Schmidt of Staples; and Avis Leitch of Swisher, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Danny Hanson and Roger Hanson, one sister; Eleanor Harry and granddaughter; Rebecca Hanson.
Memorials are preferred to First Presbyterian Church and Disabled Veterans of America.
