The Staples Motley Lady Cardinal track team took second place this past week at the Wadena-Deer Creek Invite.

The Detroit Lakes girls won the meet with 187 points and the Cardinals were second with 141 points.

Although the Cardinals had no first place wins on Thursday night, Staples Motley had six second place individuals and the 4x100m (Wing, Koskiniemi, O’Keefe, Lisson), the 4x200 (O’Keefe, N. Pearson, L. Peterson, Koskiniemi), the 4x400 (Nyhus, Smith, L. Peterson, Beachy) and the 4x800 (Smith, Fuhrman, Nyhus, Pogreba) all raced to second place finishes.

Individual seconds included Ashley Lisson in the 100m dash, Emma Pogreba in the 3200 run, Jaelin Beachy in both 100m hurdles and 300 hurdles, Kaytlin Roth in the high jump and Katlynn Ulring in the pole vault.

Helping the Cardinal score team points as well were five third places, Lisson in 200 dash, Logan Peterson in the 400 dash, Nikki Pearson in both the 100m hurdles and the triple jump and MiKayla Wing in the pole vault.

Beachy set a personal record in the 100m hurdles, finishing in 16.36 seconds. Roth’s jump of 5’2” that put her in second place in the high jump was also a personal best.

This Thursday the girls will be competing at the Hawley Invite. They’ll be in Crosby Ironton Friday, May 7, and the week after that is the big Section True Team Meet, which this year will be here in Staples.
