Basking in the after-glow

After planning for the Big Sing for such a long time, it feels a little strange that it’s over. We are basking in the after-glow of a successful event and we are well aware that the success of the Big Sing was made possible by the efforts and contributions of many.

Our chorus has participated in Big Sing festivals since 1974, but this is only our second experience with hosting the weekend. Our biggest challenge has been to provide room accommodations for the 300-450 singers, guests, accompanists and conductors. Cragun’s Resort and Conference Center proved to be a wonderful solution to that problem. The facility provided lodging, meeting and performing spaces, a large and friendly post-concert party venue and meals.

We are very appreciative of the hospitality and cooperation of the Cragun’s staff and management. Once the decision was made to house the singers at Cragun’s, things really started rolling.

The Staples community soon became aware and excited about the concert, thanks to the support of local media such as the Staples World. The Staples Motley High School staff provided wonderful support, cooperation and assistance in facilitating the Big Sing concert. Lakewood Health System worked quietly to help in big ways and the Staples area business community got on board to offer a variety of assistance.

The pre-concert entertainment provided by the Staples Motley High School jazz band, under the direction of Jeff Iverson, added another dimension and a touch of class to our show. Out of town guests found it hard to believe that high school kids could play so well.

To everyone who helped in any way, thank you so much for your part in making the Big Sing a huge success. There is no way to describe the feeling of performing in front of the warm and appreciative local audience that we encounter at each of our concerts.

We are blessed indeed to live in a community that values the arts. Although words don’t adequately communicate our appreciation, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
