Two accidents, grass fire reported in Wadena County
The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office responded to two accidents and a fire over the past weekend.
The sheriff’s deputies responded to a crash involving an off-highway motorcycle near Huntersville on Sunday morning. At around 11:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office received a 911 call stating a young male had crashed his dirt bike in the ditch.
The victim of the crash, along with a friend, were doing stunts over a driveway approach when he lost control of his dirt bike and was thrown from it. The victim was taken to Tri- County Hospital in Wadena with non-life threatening injuries.
The Wadena County Sherif f’s Of fice was assisted on the scene by the DNR, Minnesota State Patrol, Menahga First Responders, and Tri- County Ambulance.
The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, April 11 received a 911 call at 1:56 p.m. from a Dale Stine who resides at 10666 111th Avenue, Wadena. He had been cutting an engine out of a car with a torch and caught the grass on fire which subsequently set several others on fire. Stine runs a salvage yard and the cars are in close proximity to one another.
Wadena and Verndale Fire departments were both called to the scene and quickly extinguished all ten total vehicles that had caught on fire. No injuries reported and dollar amount loss was unknown at this time.
Wadena County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at scene the by Minnesota State Patrol and Minnesota DNR.
Wadena County Sheriff’s Office responded at 4:34 p.m. Sunday, April 11 to a motorcycle accident on County Road 23 and the Jim Cook curves south of County Road 17 one mile.
The driver, 51 year old Robert Albert Sim of Perham had been traveling north bound on County Road 23 when he left the roadway on a curve and collided into a sign post. The driver sustained a serious head injury but was wearing a helmet and was flown from the scene by North Memorial Air Care to Robbinsdale.
The sheriff’s department later stated the drivers condition was unknown.
Assisting the Wadena County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Menahga First Responders, Menahga Fire Department, Menahga Police Department, TCH Ambulance, KNK Towing and North Memorial Air Care.
This accident is currently under investigation by the Wadena County Sheriff’s Office.
