Printing error could cause confusion
Todd County Assessor Chuck Pelzer visited with the county board on March 30, to point out that the printer had made an error on the blue Notice of Valuation and Classification form that was recently mailed out to Todd County taxpayers.
Pelzer said that the Valuation and Classification on all the forms were correct. However, some taxpayers received a form with the wrong year printed on it.
On some forms the last sentence in the text in the upper right hand corner reads, “The property taxes you will pay in 2010 will be based on this valuation and classification”. Pelzer said that the year in that sentence should be 2011, not 2010.
The error is repeated further down the form in fine print that is in parentheses.
In the “Property Classification” box, under “Assessment Year 2009” the correct fine print should read “For Taxes Payable in 2010”. Some forms incorrectly read, “For Taxes Payable in 2009”. In the Property Classification box under “Assessment Year 2010” the correct fine print should read “For Taxes Payable in 2011”. Some forms were incorrectly printed to read “For Taxes Payable in 2010”.
Pelzer said he did not understand how the printer got some forms correct and some forms incorrect. His department sent the correct numbers to the printer, he said.
Todd County Administrator Nathan Burkett complimented Pelzer and his staff for their efficiency and high quality of work. Burkett pointed out that the assessor’s office has been accomplishing its work in recent months with only five employees. The department normally has eight employees.
