Robert Powell

Robert C. Powell, 84, of Cushing died March 25, 2010 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Minneapolis.

Funeral services were held March 29, at the Cushing Baptist Church with Dan Holms officiating. Burial was at the Cushing Union Cemetery.

Arrangements were with the Brenny Funeral Home in Randall.

Bob was born on Oct. 4, 1925 in Wakonda, South Dakota to the late Willis and Bernice (Nelson) Powell. In 1940, his family moved to Cushing. He entered the U.S. Army in January of 1945, serving during WWII and was stationed in Iwo Jima, Japan. He was awarded the Asiatic- Pacific, Theater Service, Good Conduct medals and received an honorable discharge in May of 1946. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #9073 in Randall.

Bob married Laura Mae Packer on Oct. 19, 1946. He farmed and operated heavy equipment until he retired in 1988.

He enjoyed purchasing and repairing heavy equipment, being outdoors, deer hunting, fishing, watching westerns and spending time with family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years; one son, Chriss Powell of Cushing; one daughter, Sheila Powell of Sauk Rapids; three grandchildren, two greatgrandsons; and one brother, Morris (Sharda) Powell of Motley

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Hattie and Naomi.
