In an announcement that surprised the network and his mistresses, David Letterman has announced that he plans to broadcast his nightly talk show from the Dower Lake pier beginning immediately.
Letterman’s staff has reserved several spots at the Dower Lake campground for Letterman and his guests.
The shelter will become the “green room” where guests wait before they are called to the stage. Golf carts rented from The Vintage golf club will shuttle guests to and from the pier. Letterman’s staff said they have contracted with the Todd and Wadena County snowmobile clubs for shuttle service during the winter months.
A pontoon will be permanently moored just off the north side of the pier for the orchestra. Fish houses will be moved to the lake in the winter for the band members.
When asked why he chose central Minnesota for his new studio, Letterman replied with this famous “Top Ten Reasons.”
10. He flunked his grade school swim lessons and he knows Staples Park and Recreation Department can help him out.
9. The city agreed to put him up at the Bear’s Den in Leader for a week and even let him run in the pig races.
8. Harry would enjoy a visit here.
7. There are no interns working here.
6. His team lost the Super Bowl.
5. There are no mosquitoes at Dower Lake (if you come in January).
4. The Sports Illustrated Swim Suit models will be here this summer.
3. Does anyone else want him?
2. U. S.Airways Captain Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger said Dower Lake was his second choice. (It’s cleaner than the Hudson.)
1. Because it’s the longest pier in Minnesota, according to KSTP/ KSAX-TV, possibly even the longest in the country.
