The event was sponsored by the Relay for Life team, ‘Sonshine for Life.’ This group will be walking July 23 - 24 at the Crow Wing Relay for Life event which will be held at Adamson Athletic Field. This is their third year together as a group.

At least 60 people from all over the area came to the Bingo event, reported Jan Loftis, a team captain for the Sonshine for Life team and three-year cancer survivor.

Beth Gustason, from the

Pillager area, won the 19- inch flat screen TV in the ‘blackout’ portion of Bingo.

“We are very thankful to Donna Klimek and Arnold Cole as well as all of the members of the Pillager Fairboard who graciously allowed us to host the event and were there to support and help us all the way,” Jan said. Cole served as the Bingo caller, she added.

Jan said that there are 25-plus members of the Sonshine for Life relay team. Most are from the Pillager area, but they have one member from Farmington and three others from Pine River. Terri Wickham serves as co-captain with Jan.

“This is a family affair to us so we have several walkers who are under 18,” Jan said. “They are a great group of kids and work very hard for the team.”
