From ice out to rising water

It’s the time of year when the ice chunks start flowing and water starts rising on the Crow Wing River as well as creeks, pastures and roads. On Monday ice out on the Crow Wing River at McGivern Park was barely started, but did manage to push huge chunks of ice into the fairly new steps and observation deck located just below the tree lined bank in the park. On Tuesday, the steps and railing above the water level remained with the other timbers ripped away and a pile of hard snow left behind just above the rushing water. Flooding was also reported on the Crow Wing River south of Motley off County Rd. 28. (Staples World photos by Janice Winter)
