Snowmobile found in Hayden Creek Saturday

The Todd County Sheriff’s Office reports that Staples Police and deputies responded to Hayden Creek just east of Staples about 7 a.m. Saturdy and found a 1991 Ski Doo Bombardier in the water with the rear portion of the machine submerged

A passer-by on Highway 10 reported spotting the sled on the north side of the highway but members of the Staples Fire and Rescue Department and Staples Police could not locate the driver. The snowmobile was removed from the water by Southtown Towing.

Jeremiah Coburn of Eagle Bend, the owner, was located a short time later and stated he was driving alone the previous evening and was not hurt. He said he hit the open water in the dark

An elderly woman drove her vehicle into a building in Hewitt on March 3, but no one was injured.

The Todd County Sheriff’s Office reports that Seida Benishek, 83, of Bertha, was the driver of a vehicle that hit the side of Jimmy’s Bar and Grill in Hewitt around 11 a.m. that day. The building had moderate damage and the vehicle also had some minor damage, the deputy reported. She was not injured and no one in the building was reported hurt.

A passing motorist spotted a snowmobile in Hayden Creek on the north side of Highway 10 on Sunday morning, March 7.

Other Todd County reports included:

o A 2000 Freightliner milk truck was a total loss in an accident March 5 in West Union Township in southwestern Todd County. Michael Gilbert from Villard was the driver of the truck owned by the Osakis Creamery Association. He was not hurt when he lost control at an intersection, with the truck sliding around a corner and overturning. The milk was off loaded and very little milk spilled.

o Mark Faust of rural Long Prairie reported March 5 the theft of a David White Auto Laser valued at $1,500. Anyone with any information on this is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 320-732-2157

o A snowmobile accident was reported in the Burtrum area on Feb. 28. Justin Meagher hit a tree after he drifted off a snowmobile trail and was injured. He was air lifted from the Long Prairie Hospital for further treatment.

o A rollover accident with injuries took place Feb. 26 on County Road 103 in the Grey Eagle area. Two men, 48-year old Sheldon Carrier of Grey Eagle and 26-year-old John Holtberg of Belgrade were taken to the Long Prairie Hospital after their vehicle failed to make a curve and rolled. Deputies reported alcohol was a primary factor and charges are pending.
