Staples Police in the past week responded to a number of calls. In one incident, they assisted when called to a city residence where an unknown individual was pounding on the door, wanting to be let in.

In another case, a hit and run damage incident came to light several hours after the fact.

Early Saturday, police responded to 324 Fourth Street SE when Ruth Wilkins reported someone pounding on her door, wanting to be let in. She did not know who the person was, so she called 911.

Police arrived and identified the man as Cole Buchta of Clarissa. Police said he was extremely intoxicated and was found to have a large puncture wound on his side. He said he was attempting to go to a friend’s house, but was so drunk he did not realize he was at the wrong house.

Buchta was taken to the Lakewood Health System Hospital emergency room and treated for his injures. He reported that the wound was from falling down on his way home from the bar. The Wadena County sheriff’s department assisted at the scene.

On Monday afternoon, March 1, Staples Police responded to a report of a hit and run accident on 7th Street NE Amanda Larson reported the driver’s side mirror on her parked car had been damaged, apparently by someone driving by.

The following day Priscilla Gillespie of Staples reported she believed that she had struck some ice on 7th Street NE, but later she saw the damage to her vehicle and realized she must have struck a vehicle. Both vehicles involved had minor damage as a result.
