Police report theft from Farmers Market

The theft of funds from the Staples Farmers Market group was reported to police last week.

Rebecca K. Garey reported Feb. 19,that she is the bookkeeper for the Farmers Market organization and that a money pouch containing $260.13 was stolen from her apartment at 205 Airview Drive NE.

Police last week were called at least three times to the Lakewood Health System Hospital’s emergency room where people were walking in requesting pain killing drugs. In each case the people left shortly after the arrival of officers. In one incident on Feb. 18, the ER nurse refused Vicoden to three females and a male. In another incident, a person was refused a narcotic drug and was told not to return to Lakewood facilities.

Police also reported a citation was issued for speeding early Friday morning, Feb. 19. An officer spotted a speeding vehicle on Highway 10 west of Staples. A radar check indicated the vehicle was going 80 miles per hour, a second radar check confirmed that speed. The vehicle was stopped on Highway 10 near Aldrich. The driver had several previous speed violations, according to the police report.
