The cedar shake awnings that have been a trademark of Staples for nearly 40 years are coming down. Workers for the Mike Lovelace Construction Co. of Verndale were tearing off the awnings at First International Bank and Trust Tuesday. All awnings on a two block stretch of Fourth Street will be gone when they are finished. This is necessary to make room for heavy equipment coming in this summer, tearing up the streets and installing new utility lines underground as part of the Highway 10 turnback project.
