Menk wins six graphic awards for advertising excellence

LayShia Menk LayShia Menk LayShia (Sheets) Menk, formerly of Staples, recently won six Better Newspaper Contest graphic awards for the Yazoo Herald advertising staff where she is employed in Yazoo City, Mississippi.

Menk won three first place honors in the Weekly Division B with “Best Grocery or Restaurant Advertisement”, “Best Single Magazine Advertisement” and “Best Service Advertisement”.

Menk also earned second place awards for “Best Institutional Advertisement” and “Best Single Magazine Advertisement” and a third place award for “Best Service Advertisement”.

Layshia and her husband, William, reside in Bentonia with their two sons, Ethan, 6 and Korik, 11. The Staples community held a cancer benefit for Korik in 1999 and LayShia reports that he has been cancer free since 2000. The family has lived in Mississippi for about five years.

Laysia is a 1998 Freshwater ALC graduate and a 2001 Central Lakes College graduate. William, originally from Brainerd, graduated from the CLC Staples robotics program in 2000 and is employed by Nissan North America in Canton.

The Yazoo Herald is published Wednesdays and Saturdays with a circulation of 3,773. The newspaper is a member of the Mississippi Press Association and Services whose convention and award’s ceremony was held on Jan. 30.

Menk has been employed with the Yazoo Herald for three years as a graphic designer for advertisements, magazines and is currently building a brand new website for the paper.

“We are very fortunate to have LayShia,” said Jason Patterson, Managing Editor of the Yazoo Herald. “She has tremendously improved the quality of our publications.”

Laysia is the daughter of Sherman and Becky Sheets of Staples.
