Disappointing journalism
Mr. McNaney,
I have been a fan of KSTP and its investigative reporting for many years. I felt badly that there seemed to be a “throttling” of a report you did on the historical restoration project on the 100 year old Dower Lake Pier. I know from visiting with other community leaders that you were given all of the information that would have better justified this project, but for some reason chose not to use it - or were not allowed to give an accurate report.
You also need to know that what you used of the interview with Rep. Mary Ellen Otremba was unkind and unfair. She deserves more respect than you have shown her. Justify that however you will in your own mind, but it was not right.
Hopefully, many of the newspapers in Minnesota will pick up and reprint some of the information that has been written concerning your reporting on the Dower Lake Pier. My sense is that you are good enough at your job that you weren’t the one who edited this piece down to the version that was broadcast. The person responsible for that should not be in the field of credible journalism.
Thank you for hearing my concern.
