Hockey loses to L. Falls, Willmar

The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines last week lost in a 7-5 game to Little Falls on Feb. 1, in a game that saw the two squads collect a total of 30 minutes of penalties.

Bran- dyn Swanson, Logan Meyer, Taylor Bienusa, David Najjar and Duke Harrison each scored a goal for the Wolverines, the last three all coming in the final period after the Flyers had a 6-2 lead.

Three assists in the game went to Mathew Spar, Meyer and Swanson. Little Falls had 55 shots on goal compared to just 18 for the W-DC team. Wolverine goalie Tyler Muehler had 48 saves in the losing effort.

The loss left the Wolverines with a record of four wins and 16 losses.

The local hockey squad, which is a co-op of schools including Browerville, Staples Motley, New York Mills and W-DC, traveled Feb.4 to Willmar where they dropped a 5-0 decision to the Willmar squad.

Willmar outshot the Wolverine’s 60-13, with goalie Tyler Muehler turning back 55 Cardinal shots. Willmar had more shots on goal in each period than W-DC had for the game.

For W-DC, Logan Meyer led the team with five.

The Wadena-Deer Creek boys hockey team is now 4-17 for the season with three regular season games remaining.

They host the Northern Lakes at 7 p.m. Thursday, with games against Red Lake Falls on Saturday and Morris-Benson on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
