Two big wins, one loss, for Card girls
      The Staples Motley Cardinal girls had two wins and a narrow loss in three games played this past week, but one of the wins was a BIG one.

Cardinal boys B-Squad results
      The Staples Motley JV boys basketball team dropped two games in mid- January, bringing their record to 3 wins and 5 losses. The Cards lost on the road to Perham 49 to 24 and at home to Fargo Shanley 65 to 51. The Staples Motley Cardinals boys JV team lost to Wadena Jan. 26. Coach Ray Gildow said his players played poor defense and were out-rebounded.

Blue Devils girls lose to Mid State champs Park Rapids
     The Blue Devils girls hockey squad from Long Prairie- Grey Eagle/ Waden a-Deer Creek dropped a n 8 - 1 game Jan. 26 to the Park Rapids Panthers. The girls recovered for 4-1 victory Jan. 28 against Litchfield.

On the lake
      It was a little cold, but no one seemed to mind Saturday afternoon at the Fishtrap Lake Fishing Derby. Sharon Dingman from Waite Park (left) fished with daughters Shelly Dingman (in background, center) and Jenell Snyder (right) from Little Falls.       The Staples Motley wrestlers are 15-1 heading into their last month of action. This past week they took on three teams, including some very tough wrestlers from Pierz, but won all three meets.

Cardinal boys earn three big wins in busy week
      Three strong wins were in store for Cardinal boys last week, the squad taking out their frustrations for the Jan. 19 loss to Crosby -Iron- ton on WadenaDC, Park Rapids and Little Falls. Jordan Riewer poured in 33 points on Ja n . 26 to lead SM to a 79-61 Mid State Conf erence win over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines.

      The Cardinal B-squad girls BB had three tough games this past week but finished with three wins. Coach Stacey Barthel said Jaelin Beachy and Kelly Pearson had a very good week offensively. Jaelin made the game winning free-throw against Pequot Lakes Jan. 26 SM 47 - Perham 39
