Domestic never happened, but might mean charges anyway

Staples Police responded about 8 p.m. Jan. 29 to a report of a domestic dispute at an address in northwest part of Staples.

The reporting party stated that her fiance had put a gun in her face and threatened to kill her. He also interfered with 911 phone calls she attempted to make.

The man was transported to the Wadena County jail and charged with felony second degree assault with a deadly weapon, terroristic threats, domestic assault, interference with a 911 call, felon in possession of a firearm and probation violation.

On Jan. 31, the victim in the case called and reported that the incident had never happened and that she suffers from night terrors. She requested that the charges against her fiance’ be dismissed.

The incident is being reviewed by the Wadena County Attorney’s Office.

Anne Sadusky of rural Staples reported on Jan. 26 that she had received a letter from the Trustnet Financial Company which included a cashiers check from Animas Credit Union in the amount of $985.18. Sadusky believed that the check was a scam.

The letter stated that Sadusky had won $9,851.80 through a promotional giveaway for customers of Walmart, Sears, Home Depot, Target, and other stores. The letter requested that Sadusky cash the check and contact a claim agent named Lisa Greene.

Police contacted the Animas Credit Union in Farmington, New Mexico and were informed that the check was indeed fraudulent. Sadusky was informed that it was a scam and not to cash the check.

Officers in the past week made at least two citations for driving after revocation or suspension of their licenses.

An officer attempted to stop a vehicle on 8th St on Jan. 30 for a speed violation. The vehicle eluded the officer on County Road 7. A short time later the vehicle, a 1994 Ford Ranger pickup, blue and green in color, was found by Todd County Deputy John Decock near Philbrook. The driver, Ross Reichel, was cited for DAR.

Also on Jan. 30, an officer observed a vehicle west bound on Prairie Avenue that did not have a rear license plate. The officer stopped the truck and found that the driver’s license was suspended. The driver, Tiffany Froslee, was cited for driving after suspension.
