Lamplighter Community Theatre to stage ‘Drinking Habits’
      Lamplighter Community Theatre’s next production has been cast and is in rehearsal. “Drinking Habits,” a farce by Tom Smith, will be presented Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoon, Feb. 26, 27 and 28, at the Landmark Inn in Staples.

Domestic never happened, but might mean charges anyway
      Staples Police responded about 8 p.m. Jan. 29 to a report of a domestic dispute at an address in northwest part of Staples. The reporting party stated that her fiance had put a gun in her face and threatened to kill her. He also interfered with 911 phone calls she attempted to make.

      The Staples Motley School To Work committee and the Staples Motley Area Chamber need your help in identifying outstanding youth workers, who demonstrate excellent soft skills at their work site. Awards will be given to two “Outstanding Youth workers” and “Honorable Recognition” to other teens.

Library Grand Opening
      Even though the Staples Public Library is open, the official Grand Opening will be celebrated Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 26-27. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, followed by tours of the new building. Other library activities include special programs for all ages.

2010 Home Grown Economy Conference
      U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson announced that United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will be in Marshall on February 15 and 16 to attend and give the keynote address at the 2010 Home Grown Economy conference at Southwest Minnesota State University (SWSU).

Increased enforcement Super Bowl weekend
      Todd County Sheriff’s deputies will step up DWI enforcement patrols Super Bowl weekend Feb 5, -7, to intercept impaired drivers on the roadway. The enforcement will also include added seat belt patrols. The Todd County Sheriff’s office is advising motorists to have a game plan for sober ride for Super Bowl festivities and to always buckle up.

Staples Elementary School Science Fair
      The annual Science Fair was held for students in fourth and fifth grades at Staples Elementary School Jan. 29. Judging was completed that afternoon and awards ribbons presented Feb. 1. The winners now advance to the Freshwater Education District Regional Science Fair to be held Feb. 10 and 11 at the Bertha Community Center in Bertha.

      The annual Science Fair was held for students in fourth, fifth and sixth grades. Awards were named at Motley Staples Middle School and Motley Elmentary School Jan. 28. All of the sixth grade students participated in the Science Fair; while fourth and fifth graders had the option.
