Wolverine hockey squad notches win number 4

The Wadena-Deer Creek hockey team last week downed the Wolves from Walke r- H a ck - ensack- Akeley 6-2.

The win was the fourth this season for the Wolv erinesagainst 13 losses. W-DC skaters claimed a 2-1 lead in the first period, David Najjar tying the game with his goal at the 9:29 mark. He had an assist from teammate Oliver Purup.

About four minutes later, Taylor Bienusa put the Wadena squad ahead to stay with an unassisted score at 13:52.

Neither team scored in the second period, despite several power play opportunities. W-H-A was whistled for three penalties, while the Wolverines had two penalties in that second period.

The skaters made up for it in the final 17 minutes, with five goals scored and five penalties called. Goals were scored by David Najjar, Brandyn Swanson, Logan Meyer (on a power play) and by Tyler Muehler, also on a power play.

Muehler, who usually guards the net for the Wolverines, was a forward for the W-H-A game. His back- up, Dylan Isola, took over the goalie chores.

Isola turned back 11 of the 13 Walker shots on goal. Meanwhile, his Wolverine teammates fired off 43 shots on goal against the Wolves.

A game versus Apollo slated for Saturday night was a victim of the weather. No word on if it will be rescheduled

This week the hockey players are at Crookston on Friday night.
