Staples Police report DWI arrest Jan. 23

Staples Police this week report charging a Staples man with driving while intoxicated on Jan. 23

An officer was patrolling on west Prairie Avenue when he observed a pickup truck driving from shoulder to shoulder on the road in front of him. The officer followed the vehicle to a residence where the lone male driver pulled into a driveway and stopped.

The driver left the vehicle and walked toward the offi- cer. The officer noticed he was walking unsteadily and that the driver had slurred speech, watery glazed eyes and an odor of alcohol on his breath.

The man, Thomas J. Brown, 38, was arrested for DWI and transported to the Wadena County jail.

Possible charges of fifth degree assault are pending with the city attorney’s office against one man who was involved in an incident Jan. 23 at a Highway 10 address in Staples.

Other reports included police responding to two incidents involving the same individual having mental health issues, a shoplifting charge at Helling’s Food Pride and numerous other incidents.
