Although I am not a member of the Staples community anymore, I still get the Staples World and love to read about the goings on in Staples and the surrounding area. Lately I have read, with some interests the exchanges going on, over the conflicts in the ELCA. I’m not going to comment on the rights or wrongs of that subject, but would like to say this.

We as Christians and citizens of this nation, live under two sets of rules. Mans rules, and Gods rules. There are people in this country who are always rocking the boat and trying to get a better deal with mans rules. There are also people who genuinely want to improve on what we have. Their motives are many, but basically a lot of them want to change the rules to fit their life styles, right or wrong. In our form of government they have had the right and the opportunity to do this, to the disgust of many and the happiness of others. But it is all done legally and in a democracy, it’s called the will of the people, and lets face it, there have been good changes also. Our constitution was not meant to be carved in stone. As we evolve as a people, so must our constitution.

Now there are God’s laws to talk about and you know what? They were carved in stone. They were carved in stone and there was no provision given for us to change them. God knew He couldn’t trust us that much. You cannot interpret, or misinterpret these Christian rules to live by. They are the backbone of Christian religions everywhere. We just have no right to tamper with them. No litigation and no amendments allowed. What was wrong back then, is still wrong today and will be wrong to the end of the earth. Human compassion and caring for others is a wonderful thing. It helps us have a more homogenous community. It seems though that we are letting it make us indifferent, to how God asked us to live.
