Motley Fire Dept. busy
A number of items concerning the Motley Fire Department were addressed at the Motley City Council meeting Jan. 12.
Two items (including a firefighter who wants to be reinstated to the MFD and Poplar Township terminating its contract for fire service with the city) were addressed in last week’s Staples World (Jan. 21):
In other matters concerning the Motley Fire Department, the council:
o APPROVED purchasing four pagers from Granite Electronics in St. Cloud. Estimated price is $2,312.78.
o APPROVED sending the following firefighters to EMT classes in February: Andrea Carlson, Randy Nelson and Jim Uhlman. Ninety-five percent of the class cost will be paid for by a FEMA grant; the other 5 percent will be paid for by the city.
o APPROVED spending up to $1,500 for a steel slidein unit (for the new grass rig) from Al Bendson of Staples.
o APPROVED Resolution #2010-3: a $1,500 donation from the Motley Lions, with a request that it be used for the purpose of assisting with the expenses incurred for the new grass rig.
o APPROVED purchasing a generator from Northern Tool; and lights from Grainger as proposed by Fire Chief Greig.
o HEARD that the MFD ran into some trouble with their new #3 truck when called to a fire in Leader Jan. 9. According to Greig, the packing around a valve got pinched, causing it to leak water. In a phone conversation Jan. 18, Greig reported that the truck is now fixed and was covered under warranty.
