Free tax help available
The Sylvan Town Hall AARP Tax-Aide site will open for the season beginning Thursday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and on subsequent Thursdays until the end of the tax season.
The Sylvan Town Hall is located approximately three miles east of Pillager on Hwy 210 at 24th Ave. (12956 24th Ave.). Appointments are preferred and can be made by calling the Sylvan Town Hall at 218-746-3652.
The AARP Tax-Aide program provides free tax help to taxpayers with low and middle income, with special attention to those ages 60 and older.
Please bring with you: Social Security cards or other official documentation for yourself and all dependents: W-2 forms, unemployment compensation statements: SSA-1099’s if receiving Social Security: 1099R if you received a pension or annuity: 1099 MISC for miscellaneous income: all other 1099 forms (1099 INT, 1099 DIV for interest or dividend income): Dependent care provider information: all receipts or cancelled checks if itemizing deductions: all forms showing federal tax that has been paid and any other tax related documents, also for this year only those that received Social Security, Railroad or Veterans retirement will be asked about their Economic Recovery Payment that you received in 2009. Also this year the State of Minnesota has added a refundable Motor Fuels tax credit up to a maximum of $25 for qualified taxpayers.
The Tax-Aide program will also file your state income tax plus your Minnesota Property Tax Refund forms. There is no charge for this service. For additional information about the Tax-Aide program, contact Chad Converse at 218-352-6987.
