The Staples Motley boys basketball team, perhaps still smarting a little from their loss Jan. 9 to Minnesota Trans itions, stormed back into action last week with sound play and victories over three foes.

The Cards blasted Detroit Lakes 80-67 on Jan. 12, then defeated Perham 51-46 Thursday and capped their week Saturday night with a 81-69 win over Fargo Shanley

Derek Wolhowe scored 22 points and Jon Bristow 20 to lead the Staples-Motley Cardinals past Fargo Shanley 81-69 in non-conference action Saturday.

Jordan Riewer scored 20 points and Trevor Wentworth added 17 to lead the Cardinals to a 80-67 win over Detroit Lakes in Mid- State Conference action Jan. 12.

Jordan Peterson added 12 points and Jason Johnson 10 as the Cardinal boys improved their Mid State Conference record to 3-0.

On Thursday, Riewer again led his team, scoring 20 points in helping the Cards come from behind to Class AA’s 10th ranked Perham Yellowjackets 51-46.

Wolhowe added 14 points and nine rebounds for the Cardinals.

The week’s wins gave the Cardinal boys an 8-2 overall record and a 3-0 mark in the Mid State.

This week the boys willtravel to Crosby-Ironton for a Friday night clash with the Rangers.

Saturday night both the boys and girls teams will be playing varsity and Bsquad games at Little Falls, the varsity girls at 6 p.m., the boys varsity slated to start at 7:30. (Boys and girls JV games are to start at 4:30 p.m. at Little Fall)
