Wood stove most likely caused fire
The Ruth Boldan home in Leader that was destroyed by fire Jan. 9, is now believed to have started from a faulty wood stove.
Earlier, firefighters believed the cause to have been electrical.
Motley Fire Chief Dave Greig, in a phone interview Jan. 18, said that the fire started with the wood stove; and radiant heat from the wood stove pipe worked its way through the chimney and to other parts of the house.
Boldan, 86, lived in the home with her granddaughter Dawn Weite, Dawn’s husband Jeff and their children Kelsie, 10 and Logan, 6.
Ruth, Kelsie and Logan were in the home at the time of the fire, but they escaped without injuries.
