Proper forum
While I am enthralled by the serious “discussions” on health care, job creation, economics and the topic of sexual orientation, it is my belief that all of these issues have a proper forum. It is especially so when addressing issues that pertain to scripture.
It is quite refreshing to see national topics are on the minds of people and it seems the greatest concerns we have are associated with the way our city, county, State and federal governments are being run and what impact they are having on our everyday lives and what effect their legislative passages will have on future generations. Personally, I side with Thomas Jefferson and one of his famous quotes, “Every generation needs a revolution.”
Whether Republican, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian, Green Party or, quite possibly a new party called the Tea Party, we need politicians whose vote cannot be bought. We need politicians who represent their constituents. Our constitution, and thereby our laws, was crafted to ensure the will of the majority was enforced while protecting the rights of the minority. This is not happening in Washington and, quite frankly I don’t see it happening at local levels either. People have gotten so enamored with the position they hold as to border on arrogance. We see that with judges, lawyers, and mayors. They are servants.
There are many areas where we can compromise, two we cannot, integrity and morality. As for morality, as determined by Our Creator and Savior, I still am not sure this is the proper forum. This one thing I do know for sure, we can not depend on our conscience to make any kind of determination for us. As humans, we tend to justify anything we do. I know we need to be humble before Him, to ask, to seek, to knock and most importantly to listen to what His Word says. Not just in snippets, but in its entirety.
On a footnote, I would like to express my appreciation, although belated, for the excellent job our city crews did during the holidays. These people sacrifice to ensure our streets are safe whether it’s a holiday or not. I know it’s part of their job description, nevertheless, I am very appreciative of their dedication. Hmmm, maybe politicians could learn something from them.
