In defense of
In defense of homosexuality, the letter writer from Motley (Jan. 14 issue of Staples World) repeats a misstatement used often by homosexual activists regarding Sacred Scripture. He writes, “. . . there are no words from Jesus’ mouth in scripture regarding homosexuality.” The error of his interpretation is immense and shows a lack of understanding of Sacred Scripture.
1) The Bible consists of much more than the words of Jesus. There are more than a dozen references to homosexuality in the New and Old Testaments — all condemning it. Is the writer concerned only with the words of Jesus while ignoring the entire Word of God (the whole Bible)? Is he unaware of Sodom and Gomorrah — the fiery and unconditional condemnation by God of homosexuality activity?
2) To say that Jesus never spoke about homosexuality is to ignore the last paragraph of the Gospel according to John which says (approximately close wording depending on various translations of the Bible): “There are many more things that Jesus did and said and if all were written, the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.” Hence, it is very possible that Jesus did, in fact, discuss homosexuality. Be that as it may, there are more than suffi- cient negative references to homosexuality in the Bible to establish it’s nonconformity with God’s laws.
3) Homosexual inclinations and/or tendencies are not sinful — homosexual activity is.
