Hubert Wartner

Hubert Wartner, 76, of Motley, died Jan. 10, 2010, at Lakewood Health System Care Center, Staples.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples with Fathers Ron Schmeltzer and Father Scott Wittkop officiating. Visitation is Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m. with Rosary at 7:15 p.m., family sharing at 7:30 and Parish Prayers at 7:45.

Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.

Hubert was born May 14, 1933, in Lake Benton, the son of John and Rachel (Garritsen) Wartner. After graduating high school, Hubert attended two years of technical college. In 1962, he married Mary (Bernie) Keating. The couple farmed in the Lake Benton area for a time before moving to Motley where they owned the Ten-Hi and farmed. Hubert also worked at the Motley Sale Barn. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, Viking’s games, going to auctions, visiting the casino and traveling.

Hubert is survived by his wife; his children, Barry, Brenda Hove, Jerry, Julie Olivier, Shelly Juergens, Trish Keating, Mike Grittner, Linda Smith, Jonna Riggs, Mary Hall, Jeryl Newman, and Lorrie Gold; 33 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one brother, Don (Von).

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother.
