Stolen boat reported
Staples Police in the past week handled a number of calls, including arresting one driver on suspicion of DWI, arresting two individuals on outstanding warrants and receiving a report of a stolen fishing boat.
Police officer Melissa Birkholtz reported she found Chad C. Kuhns, 25, passed out behind the wheel of his car at about 12:38 a.m. Jan. 10 near the Sixth Street S.E. railroad crossing. He was arrested and charged with third degree DUI and was taken to the Todd County Detention Center in Long Prairie.
Nicholas Demel of 121 8th Street N. E., reported that a boat and trailer had been stolen from his yard sometime over the Christmas holidays, prior to Jan. 5. The boat was a 13 foot Valco aluminum boat with a trailer, but no motor. The boat was filled with lumber when it was taken.
Staples police also reported two arrests on Todd County warrants. Mathew Liske was arrested on Jan. 10 and Travis Marvin Wolfe was found at his residence on Jan. 7. Both were turned over to Todd County Sheriff’s deputies.
Staples Police also assisted Todd County deputies at a one-car rollover Jan. 7, at County Road 7 and 281st Avenue southeast of Staples. A Staples officer stayed at the scene until a Todd County deputy arrived.
