Long time chair retires

Mel Nefstead, a 31-year member of the United District Hospital Board, and chair of both the district and Lakewood Health System board since 1980, has left those positions. LHS officials honored Nefstead with a recognition reception Dec. 22, at the hospital. LHS President Tim Rice, presented Nefstead with a recognition certificate and placque for his years of service. Nefstead, who is moving from the district, was first elected Jan. 1,1978. Rice noted that in Staples, Mel is the only board chair he has ever worked with.
