Cards, with W-DC win, improve to 3-1
The Staples Motley boys basketball team won a convincing 83-59 win over neighboring Wadena-Deer Creek on Tuesday, Dec.15.
Jordan Riew- er, who signed with Jame- stown College moments after the game, led the team’s scoring with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. For the Cards, Jordan Peterson, Gunner Johnson and Jon Bristow each pumped in 14 points.
The Cardinals, who traveled to Osakis for a Tuesday night game this week, were 3-1 after the Wadena game, with a 2-0 record in the Mid State Conference.
Against W-DC, the Cards combined six first half three point baskets with Jon Bristow’s 12 points on inside baskets to take a 43-29 half time lead. Jordan Peterson scored nine points on three long shots in the space of about three minutes. Gunner Johnson and Derek Wolhowe each added another from outside the arc. Riewer, meanwhile, had just five first half points.
The Cards, who added another 40 points in the second half, got 11 points from Riewer. The Cards, who played eight players throughout the game, put in the reserves with about two minutes remaining, with more than a 20-point lead.
Staples Motley shot 56 percent from the field, making 33 of 59 attempts. That included nine three point baskets for the game, with Trevor Wentworth and Riewer adding second half trey’s.
SM was 8 for 12 at the charity stripe. The Cards were out rebounded by Wadena-DC 29 to 25.
The two teams combined for 17 3-pointers. W-DC’s Kevin Tumberg led all scorers with 17 points followed by Scott Syverson’s 11. Basketball results
