Peter Achermann’s family still needs help

By Ted Lelwica

It has been almost five months since local resident Peter Achermann was last seen. During that time his family has seen summer, fall and now winter. His family has been coping with his disappearance with a lot of tears, a lot of prayers and a lot of help from friends and family. Not a minute goes by that they don’t think about Peter and where he could possibly be. The many unanswered questions weigh heavily on their hearts every single day.

Peter Achermann is an 82 year old man who disappeared on July 24, 2009. The car he was driving that day has been found, but repeated and thorough searches of the area surrounding the car by family, friends, neighbors, volunteers, the National Guard and several teams of search dogs have failed to find any trace of Peter or where he could be.

There is a great uncertainty about Peter’s disappearance. As of yet, there is no physical evidence of foul play, but foul play is not being ruled out. The family wonders if there is someone who knows something about the day Peter disappeared. They are praying that person will have the courage to come forward and share any information that can help the on-going investigation.

To help convince people with information to come forward, the Achermann family and their friends would like to offer a reward for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of any person responsible for the disappearance of Peter. The family is willing to contribute a substantial amount of the reward money from the proceeds from the “For Pete’s Sake” benefit that was held in the fall. Friends of the family believe that the larger the amount of the reward, the greater the chance someone will come forward with some information or evidence that will provide a clue as to what happened to Peter on that day in July.

Friends of the Achermann Family have set up an account at Unity Bank in Staples which will act as the gathering agency for all donations received for the reward. Our community has been very generous helping the Achermann family during this diffi cult time and the help has been deeply appreciated by the family. We are confident that Peter’s friends will once again rise to the challenge of raising a minimum of $10,000 for a reward.

Once that amount has been gathered from the community and the Achermann family’s contribution has been added, the reward will be offered through the Cass County Sheriff’s office. The reward will be offered for six months for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any person responsible for the disappearance of Peter.

At the end of that time, if the reward is not claimed, the money contributed towards the reward will be reimbursed to those who donated.

Please search your heart and consider making a contribution to “The Achermann Reward Fund” so we can finally bring Peter home where he belongs. All donations, whether big or small, will help bring peace to the family.
