Cardinal girls split: losing to Pequot, downing Frazee
The Staples Motley Cardinal girls team split two games this past week, losing 62-45 on Dec. 8 to the Pequot Lake girls and coming home Monday to defeat Frazee 52- 25.
Three Cardi- nal girls scored in double figures against Pequot but that was not enough to overcome the 62 points scored by the Patriots.
Junior Kyla Anthony scored 22 points, Nikki Pearson 12 and Caitlin Robinson 11 for the Cards.
For Pequot, sisters Mattie (15) and Emily Lueck (11) combined for 26 points leading the Patriots to the Mid State Conference win over the Cardinals.
Monday night the Cardinal girls entertained the Frazee Hornets. The first half was close until the final three minutes when the hosts opened up a slight lead.
In the second half, however, Staples Motley's press was more than the Hornets could handle as they opened up a 20 point lead and never let up.
Final score was 55-25. The win gives the Cardinal girls a 3-1 record while Frazee had one win and four losses. The Cards are 1-1 in the Mid State Conference with a win over Detroit Lakes and the loss to Pequot.
