Jaelin Beachy Eighth-grader Jaelin Beachy will take on some of Minnesota's finest Class A swimmers at the State Swim Meet which begins Nov. 19, at the University of Minnesota.
Beachy will be compet- ing in the 100 yard breaststroke; in heat one of four in the preliminaries scheduled Nov. 20.
"It's great to have someone qualify for this meet," said coach Bruce Onischuk. "It has been a few years since we have been down there."
The Cardinal swimmer qualified for state after clocking in at 1:11.57 at the section meet held Nov. 13 and 14, at Sartell. She placed third.
Coach Onischuk reported that Beachy placed 7th at sections in the 100 yard freestyle, with a final time of 57.89.
"Overall she had a pretty good meet," Onischuk said, adding that Beachy dropped time in both the 100 yard breaststroke and the 100 yard freestyle. "We are hoping to see a better time at the state meet in the breaststroke."
Although she didn't qualify for state, Onischuk said that sophomore Lynnea Iverson also swam well at the section meet.
"She dropped time in her 100 backstroke and in her 50 backstroke," the coach added.
The Cardinals leave for the state meet early Thursday morning, Onischuk said. Beachy will have 30 minutes of warm-up prior to the pre-lims on Friday.
