The Other Day

. . . I overheard some devastating news. I almost choked on my apple dessert causing a fit of coughing. Revived, I caught my breath and continued listening in hopes I had heard wrong.

"When will your husband be moving?" asked one concerned person. A quick reply came, "Oh, by the end of the month he should be relocated."

After the meeting, I

asked for more information

as tactfully as I could. "What do you mean your

husband will be relocated? Why, where, for what good reason?" I questioned my friend.

He was offered an exciting job with great opportunities. How could he not accept? They will all be moving, the whole family, leaving a big empty spot in my life.

Moving can be scary, or it can be a bold adventurous opportunity. The worst part is changing the old and familiar routine which always includes people - family members not moving, friends at church, co-workers and golfing buddies. A different home, new acquaintances and an exciting new town to navigate can help take the edge off the initial loneliness. A new job filled with challenges, opportunities and a regular paycheck is also exciting.

My friend had been looking for work for over six months. Working every angle still didn't produce any positive possibilities. Too young for retirement, this job offer was welcomed. They are thankful for this adventurous opportunity.

I don't look forward to the good-bye's, but I can't be sad. I will miss their laughter, their silly escapades, their children and their supportive encouragement. I thank God for bringing them into my life, and I wish them a safe and prosperous journey.

May your day be filled with great friends near and far.
