REMINISCENCES: Tasks that are repetitive each day build to incredible numbers as we age. The number of times the table gets washed, the dishes get done or the meals are made must be astonishing. These chores all have something in common - they are boring. When boredom strikes, my mind wanders.

My mind has traveled just about everywhere this week and if my brain cells were rubber tires I'd be having blow-outs. Little jingles from old commercials or radio spots have been playing incessantly, yanked from some hidden spot in that curlicued coil. Parts of old elementary school songs have me searching for a forgotten word while I am shocked to find I remember any of the words at all. Old sayings are racing through my head during boring times, a sure indication of just how sick I am of doing dishes.

I'm going to try to stump you with some of these bits that are falling out of my brain - due to an overflow of knowledge no doubt. See if you can fill in the blanks. We're on the honor system but just in case, I'll reveal the answers in next week's column.

1. Who said, "The sky is falling?"

2. "Life is a _____to those who think, a _____to those who feel." (by Horace Walpole)

3. What size shoes did my "Darlin' Clementine" wear and, what were they made of ?

4. The world is an ocean of misery, while social workers try to empty it with _____.

5. "Good-By, Old Paint, I'm a leaving ______."

6. "My home's in Montana, I wear a _____."

7. "Ad: gasoline, thousands say it's best, it's the greatest…"

8. "When it's springtime in the _____…"

9. "In the Blue Ridge

Mountains of Virginny,

on the trail of the _____ …"

No matter how bored I get with washing the table, doing the dishes or making supper, I never get too bored to eat. That's too bad.
