Gregg Alan Marquardt, 62, died Oct. 10, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Oct. 16, noon at the Pilgrim Congregational Church, 2310 E. 4th Street in Duluth. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 15, from 6:30 - 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are with the Cremation Society of Minnesota.

Gregg was born March 19, 1947, to George and Joan (Asselin) Marquardt in Wadena. He was raised in Wadena graduating from Wadena High School in 1965. He was active in Civil Air Patrol, earning the Jack Ollum Memorial Award in 1964 and was chosen to participate in the International Air Cadet Exchange Program in England, Scotland and Wales in 1965. He founded a CAP Squadron in Hermantown in 1968.

He married Wanda Annette Heern on May 4, 1968 and settled in Duluth. He started as a surveyor for the DNR in 1966 and worked for MnDOT retiring as a Senior Engineering Specialist after 41 years.

Gregg is survived by his wife of 41 years; one son, Mike (Sue) Marquardt, two daughters, Denise Ozdemir and Paula (Milo) Swenson; two grandchildren, all of Duluth; mother, Joan Marquardt also of Duluth; three brothers, Charles (Carol) Marquardt, William (Debbie) Marquardt of Michigan; Brian Marquardt (special friend, Lorrie Larsen); one sister, Kristie (Ken) Lindstrom; Aunt Jeanne Whitney of Staples; and numerous aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was the grandson of the late Charles and Lyndall Asselin.

He was preceded in death by his father, fatherin law,, Ralph Heern; one brother-in-law, Darwin Heern.
