Jaelin Beachy swimming state times
She may only be in eighth grade; but Cardinal swimmer Jaelin Beachy is already surpassing state cut times; and snagging blue ribbons at varsity events.
At a home meet against Park Rapids Oct. 1, Beachy took first in both the 100 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke, clocking her personal best times in each. Two days later, at the Fosston-Bagley Invite, she was again first in both the 100 breaststroke and the 50 freestyle events.
"Jaelin's breaststroke
(Oct. 1) was a big deal,"
said coach Bruce Onischuk. "She bettered her previous
time of 1:12.85 to a 1:11.28. This surpasses the state cut off time of 1:12.21."
However, the coach explained, in order for Beachy to qualify for the state tournament, she will need to swim the cut off time or place first or second in the section finals even though she has gone faster than the state standard during the season.
Others on the Cardinal team also swam their personal bests at the home meet Oct. 1. These included Abby Holm, Renae Weyer and Alicia Goltz in the 50 free; Cierra Waverek in the 100 free and 200 free; Kali Klimek in the 100 free; Lynnea Iverson in the 100 free and 100 backstroke.

"Lynnea Iverson and Cierra Waverek dropped a significant amount of time in their 100 freestyle swims. It was nice to see that happen. Sarah Paskewitz, Sarah Holm and Elodie Grelle had good performances also," he added.
The Cards swam very well at the Fosston-Bagley Invitational Oct. 3, Onischuk said. "Again, we had girls swim their best times yet. This has been a real exciting time for our girls," the coach said.
Before the Mid State tournament Oct. 30, the Cards will take on Detroit Lakes Oct. 22, at a home meet which begins at 6 p.m.
