City urges truck traffic to use county roads

Pretty rough crossing Burlington Northern-Santa Fe construction crews stood Monday on what used to be the Highway 210 crossing in Staples. They had removed the old sections of concrete that made up the highway crossing and will be replacing them with new ones, which were stacked nearby on railroad property. Before that, however, they will work on the aggregate base below the roadbed. Work is going on while highway traffic is re-routed to Seventh Street. Rail traffic is continuing on the BN-SF tracks. (Staples World photo by Tom Crawford) A detour on Highway 210 in Staples began Monday, Oct. 5, for work on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad crossing. The crossing was expected to be closed through Friday, Oct. 9, weather permitting.

Traffic is detoured via Sixth St., Wisconsin Ave., Seventh St. and Eighth St. while Burlington Northern Santa Fe crews reconstruct the crossing.

Officials in Staples urge truck traffic to not use the Seventh St. detour, but rather proceed west through Staples on Hwy. 10 and return to Hwy. 210 using either county roads 9 or 11 west of Staples. Likewise for east bound traffic on Hwy. 210, turn north on either of those two county roads. County Road 11 is approximately eight miles west of Staples and County Road 9 is about five miles west.

Drivers are urged to slow down and observe directional signs.
