School board reviews student test data
Math test scores at Staples Motley Schools have improved enough that the district is no longer on the No Child Left Behind Act list for not making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in math. That's the good news. The bad news is that the district is entering the list for not making AYP in reading for the subgroup of special education across the district.

Pipeline repairs
Crews from the InterCon Construction Company from Madison, Wisc., began making repairs on an 18- inch Koch Pipeline in the Staples area last week. An inspection using a 'smart pig' sent through the pipeline detected a possible deterioration in the pipe in two locations near Staples. One (above) is along Eighth Street N.E. near the Staples Alliance Church, with the other along Highway 10 about 1-1/2 miles east of Staples. Shane Compton, an inspector with the Tulsa Inspection Co., Inc. said they expected to be working on the first pipe for at least a week. In most cases, sleeve will be welded over the existing pipe to reinforce previous welds. (Staples World photo by Tom Crawford)

Do you know these men?
This photo was found by the children of Pat and Bonnie (Herman) Dobson as they were cleaning out their parents' home in Staples. No identification was found except for the name "J.R. Dodd" and number "266-35" in the lower left; probably an identification of the photographer. Lloyd Nelson has been trying to find the local connection. He believes the airplane in the background is eithe a B-17 or a B-25, most likely the former. This looks like a combat crew, probably from WWII but it could be as late as the Korean Conflict. Anyone who has information is asked to call Nelson at 894-3613. The original of this photo is at Nelson Insurance Agency for anyone who wants to get a closer look.
