Herbert T. Sheldon

Herbert T. Sheldon, 77 of Cushing, died, Sept. 10, 2009 at his home.

Memorial services were Sept. 15, at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls with Chaplain Greegg Valentine officiating. Burial was at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls.

Arrangements were with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls.

Herbert Theodore Sheldon was born on Jan.12, 1932 in Oshkosh, Neb. to the late Hiram and Nora (Major) Sheldon. After working on the family farm, Herbert entered the U.S. Army in 1951, serving in Korea. He received the Purple Heart twice for being wounded in combat. Herbert returned home from overseas and married Irene Cranmore on Aug. 13, 1952, in Oshkosh, Neb. While still serving in the military, Herbert and Irene moved to Las Cruces, N.M., and Herbert worked at the White Sands Proving Grounds. Honorably discharged in 1954, the couple continued to reside in Las Cruces until moving back to Oshkosh, in 1970. 

He worked in the construction trade as a drywall contractor. In 1981, they moved to the Lincoln Lakes area in Cushing, with Herbert eventually retiring in 1989. He enjoyed fishing, flea markets, chocolate and reading. Herbert was a longtime member of Randall V.F.W. Post # 9073 and the Little Falls Disabled American Veterans. 

Herbert is survived by his wife; two sons, Danny (Lorne) Sheldon of Scotts Bluff, Neb.; Burel (Barb) Sheldon of Russell, Neb.; two daughters, Jackie (Ray) Estes of Madison, S.D., Mickie (Delbert) Elder of Grand Prairie, Texas; one brother, Carl (Betty) Sheldon of Jasper, Alaska; one brother in law, Wayne Harden of Oshkosh; eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Sandy Sheldon in 1970; three sisters, Wanda Miller, Rita Harden, and Kay King; three brothers, Leroy, Burel, and Rex Sheldon.
