Seven file for school board

Four newcomers will join three incumbents in the Nov. 3 election for three spots on the Staples Motley School Board.

Brad Anderson, Carrie Beachy, Frank Odell and Brian Smith have joined incumbents Roy DiGiovanni, Mary Freeman and Barb Schmitt in the race.

DiGiovanni was first elected to the Motley School Board in 1993 and became part of the joint board with the consolidation with the former Staples School District. He has served contiuously since then.

Freeman was appointed in November, 2004, to complete the unexpired term of Mark Haglin who left the district to take a job in another city. She was elected to a four-year term in 2005.

Schmitt served on the school board from 1984 to 1995 with the Staples school board and then the joint Staples Motley school board. She was elected again in November, 2005.

The four-year terms will begin the first Monday in January, 2010.
