The Staples Motley boys cross country runners pulled out a fifth place finish, competing against 11 teams in the Shocky Strand Invitational on Monday, Au - gust 31.

Moor- head runners took first place with teams also competing from Willmar, Perham, Detroit Lakes, Bemidji, Thief River Falls Lincoln, Fergus Falls, Park Rapids, East Grand Forks, Hawley and Pelican Rapids.

Senior and tri-captain Gunnar Johnson led the Cardinals, racing to tenth place with a time of 17:41.88. Fellow senior and also a tri-captain, Isaac Fuhrman finished next, while Justin Ziegler, Brandon Sterriker, Tyler Pogreba, Paul Plenvey and Jordan Heldman all raced well, playing a role in the fifth place finish.

This week will be a quiet week, but the following week the Cards will be running in the Whitetail Run Invite in Wadena, on Tuesday, Sept. 8. The boys will also be hosting the Gerry Riewer Invitational at Pine Grove Park on Saturday, Sept. 12, which starts at 10 a.m.
