This summer, Lakewood Health System (LHS) is hosting 18 eager students for the summer internship program.

Throughout their time at LHS, students are able to choose the departments they would like to learn more about. In the case of Jason Brill, a third-year college student, he said that the more departments he's able to see, the better.

"This is an excellent opportunity to discover what I want to do in the future," said Brill.

While working at LHS, the students get hands-on experience and sometimes are able to help with basic care. Through this internship opportunity, students are afforded the valuable opportunity to see behindthe scenes and learn about some of the non-traditional careers that are available.

Karen Treangen, RN, is the clinical instructor at LHS. She works with each student to customize schedules based on interests.

Students are chosen through an application process. Any student who has completed his/her junior or senior year of high school and is enrolled as a post-secondary student with current or planned health care career coursework is eligible to apply. Program brochures and applications are sent each year to area school counselors for distribution.
